The International Film Festival - FEST will be held for the 51st time, from 24 February to 5 March 2023, in numerous halls across Belgrade, including: MTS Hall, the Cultural Centre of Belgrade Movie Theatre, the Belgrade Youth Centre, Cineplexx Ušče, Cineplexx Galerija and the Yugoslav Film Archive.
The audience will have the opportunity to see around 100 premieres within different programme sections, among which are films that are causing great attention around the world: TÁR nominated for six Oscars directed by Todd Field with Cate Blanchett in the lead role, WOMEN TALKING directed by Sarah Polley with two Oscar nominations, the British drama LIVING with Bill Nighy with several Oscar and BAFTA nominations, David Cronenberg's new film CRIMES OF THE FUTURE nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival, the notable thriller DECISION TO LEAVE by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, who won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival for this film.
The psychological drama TÁR is set in the world of classical music and focuses on a fictional character, Lydia Tár, a composer and conductor who is the first female principal conductor of a major German orchestra. Cate Blanchett has already won several prestigious awards for this role, and is also nominated for an Oscar in the best actress category. In addition to this category, the film Tár has a total of six Oscar nominations, including categories for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.
The film WOMEN TALKING is based on the novel of the same name by Miriam Toews about women in an isolated religious community who struggle to reconcile their faith with a series of sexual abuses perpetrated by the men of the colony. The film has two Oscar nominations: for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture, as well as two Golden Globe nominations: for Best Screenplay - Motion Picture and Best Original Score - Motion Picture.
The British film LIVING by Oliver Hermanus is based on Kurosawa's film Ikiru, written by Kazuo Ishiguro and set in the 1950s. The main character is a rigid civil servant who decides to take time off from work to experience life after being given a grim diagnosis.
CRIMES OF THE FUTURE is Cronenberg's latest sci-fi horror drama starring Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart. This film, which was highly noted at the Cannes Film Festival, is set in a future where many people have accelerated evolution syndrome, which causes them to grow new body organs. Of particular note is avant-garde performer Saul (Mortensen), who publicly displays his ever-changing organs.
DECISION TO LEAVE (Heojil kyolshim) is a sensational South Korean thriller directed by Park Chan-wook, in which one of the main roles is played by Chinese star Tang Wei. The film received much attention at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it won Best Director Award and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. ‘Decision to Leave’ invites the audience not to look for a solution to the puzzle that forms the backbone of the film's story, but to surrender to an unusual combination of tension and subtle emotions. Park Chan-wook won numerous awards at festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice and one BAFTA award, for the film ‘The Handmaiden’ (2016), which was shown at the 45th FEST.
Tickets for the 51st FEST will soon be on sale at the ticket offices of the halls where the films are shown, as well as on the tickets.rs website and Ticket Vision outlets.
