Maja Medić, photographer, director, producer, Serbia
Maja Medić was born in 1979 in Belgrade. She graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade with the degree in Film and TV Camera and completed the Transmedia postgraduate programme in arts, media and design at the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. She is a member of the Applied Artists and Designers Association of Serbia (Serbian: ULUPUDS) and a candidate for DokSerbia membership.
Medić has 14 independent photography exhibitions and several photography awards. She has participated in numerous collective exhibitions in the country and abroad, and as an associate of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, she has organized many photography exhibitions on the topic of domestic film history (40 years of the series ‘The Unpicked Strawberries’ [Grlom u jagode], Milena Dravić, Nebojša Glogovac, 50 years of the film ‘The Battle of the Neretva’ [Bitka na Neretvi], 40 years of the film ‘All That Jack's’ [Majstori, majstori!], Cinematographers in Serbian Film). She works as a photographer on a film set and edits film monographs (‘National Class: feature films of Goran Marković’, ‘Yugoslav Film Archive - 70 years’, ‘Cinematographers in Feature Film’, ‘Nebojša Đukelić’...).
She is currently directing her first feature-length documentary film, ‘Želim da znaš’, and producing a documentary film about Goran Marković.
Greg de Cuir, film theorist, USA / Serbia
Greg de Cuir Jr is the co-founder and artistic director of the Kinopravda Institute in Belgrade. He organized programmes at the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, Media City Film Festival in Windsor-Detroit, the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives in New York, the Locarno Film Festival and many other film and art institutions. De Cuir is currently preparing the first translation of the work ‘Constructivism in Film - A Cinematic Analysis: The Man with the Movie Camera’, written by Vlada Petrić (originally published by the University of Cambridge, 1987).
Dijana Metlić, art historian, Serbia
Dr Dijana Metlić is a professor in the History of Art Department at the Academy of Arts of the University of Novi Sad. She wrote her PhD dissertation on the oeuvre of Stanley Kubrick in 2012 at the History of Art Department of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, researching the influence of fine arts on Kubrick's filmmaking. The results of her research in the study ‘Stanley Kubrick: Between Painting and Film’ were published by Film Center Serbia in 2013. Due to the great interest of readers, a second, supplemented and corrected edition of the mentioned book was published in 2022. She also worked as the programme coordinator of FEST from 2007 to 2014.
Professor Metlić also researches interwar Serbian art, connecting painting, photography and film. Her research has been published in national and international magazines and anthologies, and her monographic studies, in addition to Film Center Serbia, are published by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Gallery of Matica Srpska. She was the author of notable exhibitions at the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris, the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade, the Gallery of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad, and the Sava Šumanović Art Gallery in Šid. She is a permanent associate of the Yugoslav Film Archive in Belgrade, the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Matica Srpska Gallery, the Pavel Beljanski Memorial Collection. She is a member of the national branch of ICOM.
She participated in numerous international and national scientific conferences. Her contribution to the study of Stanley Kubrick's oeuvre and its positioning in the wider framework of 20th century art history has been published in international anthologies by prestigious world publishers such as Routledge and Springer. Her narrower fields of specialization are: modern art, historical avant-gardes and the study of connections between painting, photography and film.
