According to Jugoslav Pantelić, artistic director of FEST, the French-Moroccan film, which will open the Main Competition programme, is one of the best of the past year.
As one of the gems of this year's FEST, the artistic director and selector, Jugoslav Pantelić, singled out the film ‘The Damned Don't Cry’ (Les damnés ne pleurent pas), which premiered in Venice and will open the competition programme of the 51st FEST
It is a film by a British filmmaker with Moroccan roots, Fyzal Boulifa, shot in a French-Moroccan production. The story is set in Morocco and follows the relationship between a single mother and her teenage son. The two move from place to place, in an attempt to escape from the scandals she keeps causing. Coming to Tangier offers them an opportunity for a new beginning, but also puts their relationship to the test.
The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival as part of the prestigious accompanying programme Giornate degli Autori. It participated at many festivals, including the festivals in Marrakesh, London, Stockholm, Troms, Geneva, and it has been awarded at the festivals in Palm Springs and Bordeaux so far.
‘The Damned Don't Cry’ will premiere at FEST on Saturday 25 February at 5 p.m., in Hall 1 of MTS Hall. The film will be screened again in the same hall on 26 February at 10 a.m., as well as at the Belgrade Youth Centre on 26 February at 8 p.m.
There are 17 films from 15 countries in the Main Competition programme of FEST.
